 It is a good idea to get some advice when you start any business. 

Gets your records right from the start with regards to employment, VAT returns and recording payments and expenses.

 

You can design your own way of recording your transactions or choose from one of the accounting software packages available, depending on the size of your business and your personal preference.

 

You can of course, employ an accountant but if you have the time, there's no reason why you can't do everything youself and save some money. 

 

The government website has all the information you need to help you complete your returns and you can call and speak to an adviser or go to one of their free workshops to talk you through their requirements.  Another option is to enrol in a business or accounts course at a local school or college to build up your confidence.
